But sometimes, the person you call a “friend” is actually your biggest enemy in disguise—an unfriendly friend. They clap when you fall, and frown when you rise. They are not there to build you; they are there to break you—slowly, silently, and skillfully. The danger of an unfriendly friend lies in their closeness. The Bible reminds us in Joshua 1:9: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” To be encouraged means to lift your heart above fear and trust in God’s promises, even when circumstances seem overwhelming. David faced giants, Paul endured prisons, and Joseph survived betrayal—but in every case, God’s presence turned their trials into testimonies. When discouragement whispers that you are alone, remember the words of Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
