DEADLY EARTHQUAKE DEVASTATES EASTERN AFGHANISTAN

A powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan late on August 31, 2025, causing widespread devastation across Kunar and Nangarhar provinces. The tremor, which hit near Jalalabad at a shallow depth, left entire communities in ruins.

According to Taliban authorities, at least 812 people have been confirmed dead, while more than 2,800 have been injured. The actual toll is feared to rise as rescuers battle landslides, collapsed homes, and blocked roads in mountainous areas. Many residents remain trapped beneath rubble, with emergency workers racing against time to save lives.

The impact has been catastrophic. Entire villages were flattened, families displaced, and hospitals overwhelmed. Strong aftershocks, including tremors above magnitude 5, have compounded the destruction and hampered rescue operations. Survivors are struggling with limited access to food, shelter, and medical care.
The Afghan Red Crescent, the United Nations, and local volunteers have mobilized emergency aid. At least 40 evacuation flights have transported the severely wounded to medical centers. Neighboring countries, including Pakistan and Iran, have pledged support, dispatching relief supplies and offering rescue assistance.

This disaster adds to Afghanistan’s ongoing humanitarian crises, including drought, refugee returns, and economic challenges. Relief agencies warn that urgent international assistance is needed to prevent further suffering, particularly as thousands face homelessness and shortages of essential supplies.

For survivors, the coming days will be critical. As rescue efforts continue, Afghanistan stands once again at the heart of a tragedy that demands global solidarity and swift humanitarian action.

TRUMP DEPLOYS NATIONAL GUARD TO CHICAGO AMID RISING UNREST

TRUMP DEPLOYS NATIONAL GUARD TO CHICAGO AMID RISING UNREST In a move that has sparked widespread debate across the United States, President Donald Trump has authorized the deployment of 300 National Guard troops to Chicago. The decision, according to the White House, comes in response to a series of violent protests, vandalism, and reported lawlessness that have gripped parts of the city in recent weeks. Administration officials say the deployment is aimed at restoring peace and protecting federal buildings, businesses, and citizens, but critics argue it marks another instance of federal overreach and political showmanship. The announcement was made late Saturday following a high-level security briefing at the White House. In his statement, Trump emphasized that the federal government “would not sit idly by while chaos and violence undermine public safety.” The president pointed to reports of shootings, looting, and clashes between demonstrators and police as justification ...
