NEW EBOLA OUTBREAK DECLARED IN KASAI PROVINCE, DRC
Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have confirmed a new outbreak of Ebola virus disease in Kasai Province, raising fresh concerns across Central Africa. The Ministry of Health announced that as of September 4, 2025, 28 suspected cases have been identified, with 15 deaths, including among healthcare workers.
The outbreak has been traced to Bulape and Mweka health zones, where clusters of infections have been reported. In response, the World Health Organization (WHO) has deployed rapid response teams and dispatched approximately two tonnes of medical and laboratory supplies to aid in containment efforts.
According to officials, priorities now include strengthening disease surveillance, enhancing infection prevention and control measures, and improving case management. Health workers are also conducting community sensitization campaigns to curb misinformation and encourage early reporting of symptoms.
The DRC has faced repeated Ebola outbreaks over the past decade, but public health experts emphasize that quick and coordinated action can significantly reduce the impact. Neighboring countries are on alert, with border health checks being intensified to prevent cross-border spread.
While challenges remain, particularly in rural areas with limited infrastructure, the deployment of resources and international support offers hope for containment. Authorities continue to urge residents to adhere to public health guidance and report any suspected cases promptly.
The situation is still developing, and further updates will determine whether this outbreak can be swiftly controlled or escalates into a wider health emergency.
