🇳🇬 TINUBU'S 10-DAY WORKING VACATION IN EUROPE SPARKS DEBATE AT HOME
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has embarked on a 10-day working vacation in France and the United Kingdom, a move that has once again stirred conversations across Nigeria. Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Tinubu has made over 36 foreign trips, many of which have been linked to attracting investments, strengthening diplomatic ties, and engaging with global leaders. Supporters argue that these trips have put Nigeria back on the world map, with billions of dollars in pledges from international investors, and they see this vacation as a well-deserved break for a leader who has carried an intense workload since inauguration.
However, the announcement has not been met with universal applause. Critics believe the President spends too much time outside the country while Nigerians grapple with inflation, unemployment, and insecurity. To many, the optics of vacationing abroad send the wrong message at a time when ordinary citizens are struggling to meet basic needs. On social media, voices like financial analyst Kalu Aja have urged the President to set an example by holidaying in Nigeria, arguing that such a move would not only boost confidence but also demonstrate solidarity with the people.
This latest trip underscores a growing divide in public opinion. Some Nigerians view Tinubu’s frequent travels as strategic, bringing long-term benefits that will eventually transform the economy, while others are increasingly frustrated by the lack of visible results on the ground. For them, promises of foreign investment mean little until they translate into lower food prices, stable fuel supply, and more jobs.
Whether this vacation strengthens Nigeria’s global image or deepens public frustration remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that every trip Tinubu takes is now being weighed against the urgent realities facing Nigerians at home.
